Two weeks ago today, I became a Grandmother for the first time. Aiden was born on March 16 @ 6:20 pm via C-section. He was 3 weeks early and weighed 5lbs 2oz. He went to surgery in the first 30 minutes of his life. He was born with gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is an abdominal wall defect where the intestines form on the outside of the body. When he was delivered the Surgeon said all of his large intestines, some of his small intestines and his liver were on the outside of the body. The liver was unexpected, so the rush for surgery. Approximately 2.5 hours later he came and told us that it was not actually the liver, but a mass of twisted, contorted, “dead”, necrotic gangrenous bowel of his small intestine. He had to cut a large portion out but was able to get all the bowel back in. He has 2 colostomies or jejunostomies. Because of the close proximity to his stomach he cannot eat. He is only fed with TPN ( IV nutrition) through a PICC line. Thanks to an enourmous amount of prayers and one tough little boy, he has done better than anyone expected. He is still in the NICU, and will remain until colostomy closure in a few weeks. His parents are staying in the Ronald McDonald house across the street. We spend hours with him. The day I held him for the first time, Nurse Cratchet, I mean the nurse on duty said I could hold him when he was awake, but not to wake him. I waited 4 hours. It was worth it.
If anyone reads, please pray for this precious child.

Hi Alison,
(All is vanity)
I found your blog because I was checking out who had subscribed to my blog
I just wanted to say that I hope little Aiden is through the worst of it and growing strong and healthy. I will keep him in my prayers.
Elizabeth
